As a former Publisher of Business newspapers, I’ve always enjoyed picking up local newspapers and magazines wherever I go. Being a new resident of Hawaii, I’ve started picking up some local publications on a regular basis and thought that I would start writing about them, so our growing number of readers can learn about local Hawaii publications that may interest them.
As things turn out, the first magazine that I decided to write about is called Seicho-No-Ie Truth of Life. The copy that I picked up is a bit old (from February 22), but I really loved the lead title on the front page: “The Principle of Life: LOVE”.
I really want to subscribe to this fantastic and positive publication, so I wrote them the following email:
Hello to SNI –
Yesterday I was lucky enough to pick up a February edition of your Truth of Life magazine at Times in Mililani.
Do you sell a subscription to this GREAT publication?
As a former Publisher of Business Journals, I am very proud of your work. Thank you for your service to our communities.

(BTW – after further looking through the magazine, I found out there is an order form in the back to send in subscriptions and order other publications. I will definitely subscribe and look forward to purchasing other publications from this amazing organization. I hope that they can soon make it easy for people to order (and pay) online.
Even though this is not really a “Hawaii” publication – it looks like it comes from Gardena, California, I did find out that they have a “missionary area” in the Matlock area of Honolulu and a “Jisso Center” on the Windward side in Kaneohe.

This Truth of Life magazine does have a number of very interesting articles and lots of shorter “Words of Wisdom” – which really are wise. One of my favorite Words of Wisdom in this issue was “Words have creative power. Speak only words of growth and prosperity.”
Perhaps my favorite passage from this issue of Truth of Life was the following (from inside the front cover):
You Receive What You Have Pictured in Your Mind
Masaharu Taniguchi
If you are not satisfied with your current situation, examine your mind.
At some point in the past, you must have felt at least one emotion of darkness, evil, unhappiness, disease, hatred, envy, worry or resentment.
Turn your mind away from them.
Envision in your mind only things that are good, beautiful, pure, lovely, harmonious, healthy, wealthy, peaceful, etc.
Even if you are not well now, envision that “I am healthy.”
It may sound unreasonable to you.
However, you are a “child of God,” so no matter what your physical appearance may be, truly you are health itself.
This was a very nice message to read today, which happens to be the anniversary of my father’s death. Rest in peace Dad. I know we didn’t always see eye to eye, but I do love and miss you.
