U.S. Bank has named Mike Katz market president and head of commercial banking for the Puget Sound region, effective August 1. Katz succeeds Chris Heman, who is relocating out of the market later this summer.
A seasoned commercial banker, Katz has been with U.S. Bank for 13 years having most recently led its team of commercial banking relationship managers serving a diverse mix of companies in Denver. Over his career, he’s been recognized nationally among the bank’s top performers in the division. He is experienced in capital markets and mergers and acquisitions, including experience at CH2M Hill and Wells Fargo.

“Puget Sound is an important market for U.S. Bank,” said Michael Righi, senior vice president and regional commercial banking leader for U.S. Bank. “Mike is a community advocate whose wealth of commercial banking experience allows us to continue to demonstrate energetic and thoughtful leadership for our clients and community partners. We are pleased to promote and welcome him to Seattle, and we thank Chris for his leadership in building on our legacy and position in the market.”
U.S. Bank employs more than 1,300 people and has 91 branches in the market, including locations at Sea-Tac Airport and the Starbucks Center. Active in the community, last year the bank committed more than $150 million to the area in the form of community development loans and investments, corporate contributions, and grants, and its employees spent nearly 7,000 hours volunteering with local nonprofit organizations.
“I look forward to getting involved in the Puget Sound market through community and civic organizations. This region benefits from a diverse economy and continues to build on its national reputation as a hub for innovation,” Katz said.
Katz was a leader in the Denver community, serving as a board member for Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Council and Junior Achievement, among others over the years. He earned bachelor’s degrees in finance and accounting from Miami University of Ohio and a master’s in finance from University of Colorado Denver, and is CFA charterholder.
Heman has been with U.S. Bank in Seattle since 2001, most recently as market president and previously as retail banking head for the region. He and Katz have been working closely together and will continue to do so until Heman relocates to Denver to care for aging parents.
