Students at California Virtual Academy @ San Diego (CAVA @ San Diego), an accredited, full-time online public charter school, will begin their school year on August 23, simply by turning on their computers. CAVA @ San Diego, which begins its 16th year of operation, is available to students in kindergarten through 12th grade who reside in Imperial, Orange, Riverside and San Diego counties.

CAVA @ San Diego is public school at home, which provides families and students an alternative to traditional brick-and-mortar education. Students enroll in online school for a wide variety of reasons, including advanced learning, a bullying-free environment and the ability to balance their education with extracurricular pursuits or medical needs.

“We are excited to welcome our students for the new school year at California Virtual Academies,” said April Warren, head of schools at the nine California Virtual Academies. “We are proud to provide a personalized education tailored to support each student’s unique needs and goals and put them on the path to success in school and beyond.”

Students in all grade levels take a full course load across the core subjects of English/language arts, math, science and history, as well as world languages, art, music and electives. An Advanced Learning Program is available for younger students, and high schoolers may prepare for college with honors and Advanced Placement courses. In addition, students have the opportunity to take concurrent enrollment courses to earn college credit while still in high school.

 

CAVA @ San Diego’s dedicated teachers facilitate lessons during live, interactive online classes and interact with students and families via phone, email, web-based classrooms and online discussions, building close partnerships with parents and students to support academic success. The online platform enables students to enjoy a safe learning environment.

Throughout the school year, CAVA @ San Diego fosters a sense of community through in-person field trips, social outings and service learning opportunities. CAVA @ San Diego also celebrates graduating seniors with an in-person commencement ceremony in the spring. Additionally, virtual clubs and student organizations allow students to further explore their interests together in the online setting.

CAVA @ San Diego also offers a program called Community Day, which combines the best of online learning with weekly face-to-face interaction. On Community Days, students receive instruction from teachers in math and language arts and participate in various other educational activities, such as physical education and science fairs, while parents receive support and network with other parents.
