A look at the highest paid woman CEOs in 2013

Some would argue – rightfully so – that a glass ceiling still exists for many women in management at companies large and small, but the situation has gotten better in the last couple decades. And the best news is that this is a trend that’s likely to continue for the foreseeable future. While you may not think this is true, all you have to do is take a look at the highest earning females in a CEO position to see that some are able to break through the “ceiling” and achieve greatness in the workplace.

Ten Highest Paid Woman CEOs

Here’s the list of the ten women who make the most as a CEO in a variety of different industries.

  1. Marissa Mayer – $36.6 million – As the president and CEO of Yahoo, one of the Internet’s largest brands, Mayer had a lot of things to fix at the company which may be one reason she’s making so much.

  1. Irene Rosenfeld – $28.8 million – As CEO at Mondelez International (once known as Kraft), Irene has done a wonderful job as the well known brand has gone through many different changes.

  1. Wellington Denahan-Norris – $25.8 million – Being in charge of Annaly Capital Management, a real estate investment trust, it a lot of work, but Wellington has done great which is why she’s making so much.

  1. Jane Elfers – $17.2 million – The President and CEO of Children’s Place Retail is being compensated very well for her role at the company.

  1. Virginia Rometty – $16.2 million – As President, CEO, and chairman of IBM, Virginia has her work cut out for her, but many believe she’s worth every penny they’re paying her.

  1. Meg Whitman – $15.4 million – The President and CEO of Hewlett-Packard is another female CEO making a lot of money.

  1. Indra Nooyi – $14.2 million – The CEO and chairman at PepsiCo isn’t as well compensated as some of the other women on this list, but she’s still making over a million dollars every month.

  1. Sherilyn McCoy – $12.9 million – The CEO of Avon Products also takes home just over a million every 30 days on the job.

  1. Debra Cafaro – $11.2 million – Ventas, a real estate investment trust company compensates their CEO really well.

10. To Wai Bing – $10.6 million – The CEO and director at Hong Kong Television Network Ltd. is last on our list, but she’s still making a salary many women would love.

Do you notice any patterns in the list above? If you look closely, you may see that the industries with highly paid CEOs are pretty diverse. In the past you wouldn’t see any woman working as a CEO, but today many are doing really well for themselves in many different areas of the business world.
