New report highlights BP’s commitment to US economy and Washington, where it operates Cherry Point refinery and retail fuel stations
BP’s business activities in Washington account for nearly $300 million and help employ more than 7,900 Washingtonians, according to a new report released today by the company.
In its US Economic Impact Report 2013, BP detailed the impact of the $290 million it spent with more than 400 vendors across the state in 2012. This activity underpins the jobs of more than 1,000 BP employees and supports an additional 6,900 jobs in the state.
BP’s operations in Washington focus on the company’s Cherry Point refinery near Blaine. Recently completed additions to the refinery allow it to produce a full slate of fuels. On an average day, the Cherry Point refinery produces enough gasoline products to fill 162 cars per minute, jet fuel to complete 1,000 roundtrip flights from Seattle to New York, and diesel to drive a semi-truck around the world 40 times.
In addition, there are more than 100 ampm retail and convenience store locations across the state.
“BP is proud of the benefits its operations bring to the Pacific Northwest, and of the jobs and economic opportunities they provide,” said Stacey McDaniel, head of BP’s Cherry Point refinery. “This report clearly demonstrates BP’s commitment to Washington and makes clear the vital role the state plays not only in BP’s U.S. portfolio but to the American economy and to our energy security.”
Nationally, BP spent more than $25 billion with more than 15,000 vendors across the country in 2012, according to the company’s new report. All told, BP’s economic impact was $147 billion in the U.S. last year.
