As part of USDA’s Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Food Lifeline’s Kids Cafe program will expand by providing free snacks and meals to local children in King County Organizations, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue. Meals and snacks will be made available at no charge to children 18 years of age and younger attending summer programs at “The Club” Teen Center.
Kids Cafe seeks to fill a significant gap in service to children from high-need communities by giving them consistent access to nutritious food. Nearly 1 in 4 children in Western Washington are at risk of going hungry and the consequences of hunger and malnutrition to children are serious and can include diminished performance in school as well as cause delays in physical and cognitive development. “The Club” teen center serves over 4,000 teens annually through drop-in and targeting programming such a teen-run late-night concert series, the BE GREAT: Graduate mentoring program, weekly Teen Feed dinners, and the Keystone service club. With the help of the Kids Café Program, The Club is able to provide healthy snacks and meals to all of the teens who attend programs.
