John Howie Steak, the Northwest’s premier dining experience and The Shops at The Bravern, the Northwest’s most unique shopping experience, recently announced, “Be Bold. Be Bald,” a head shaving and happy hour event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thurs., July 21, 2011, to benefit Tomoko Bryant, an employee of Chef John Howie battling breast cancer who has put together a team to walk in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure this September. The “Be Bold. Be Bald.” event will take place in conjunction with Sips & Sounds, The Bravern’s weekly outdoor happy hour with live music.
The community is invited to help support and raise contributions for Tomoko’s team, the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure and the fight against breast cancer. Guests can contribute by purchasing a specialty cocktail at Sips & Sounds or donating to Tomoko’s team at the event. Additionally, on July 21 only, individuals can donate $50 to Be Bold. Be Bald. and have their head shaved by Red Door Spa during the event.
“Tomoko is a brave woman and a valued member of the John Howie family. We are honored to support her and her team,” said John Howie, chef and owner of John Howie Steak and Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar. “Her attitude is an inspiration.”
To kick things off, John Howie, chef and owner of John Howie Steak and Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar, will have his head shaved at 5:30 p.m. And, as a gesture of gratitude, John Howie Steak, Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar, Trophy Cupcakes, Red Door Spa, Vovito Caffè & Gelato and Neiman Marcus have put together gifts for anyone who donates $50 to have their head shaved, including a $25 gift certificate to Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar and a $25 gift certificate to John Howie Steak.
“When Tomoko Bryant was diagnosed in September, breast cancer suddenly had a face,” explained Carrie Keyes, member of Team Tomoko. “Tomoko was the picture of health and the sister, friend, wife and mother you wish you had or could hope to be. So in the spirit of sisterhood, we will walk 60 miles together to save lives, inspired by this woman we love.”
Throughout the summer, funds raised through the sales of specialty cocktails during Sips & Sounds each week will go to support individuals and teams participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure.
“I am truly touched by this gesture,” said Tomoko Bryant. “Cancer impacts so many lives and my hope is that our team’s contribution will get us closer to the cure.”
