Seattle Golf Channel Academy to Appeal to 42% of Golfing Fan Base
Baseball fans in Seattle can tune up their golf games inside Safeco Field this summer at the new Seattle Golf Channel Academy established by local PGA professional Gregg Rogers.
The 800-square-foot Seattle Golf Channel Academy is located on the second level of Safeco, just behind right-center field, and is open for all Mariners home games. The Seattle Golf Channel Academy debuts this week during a time in which the Seattle area is hosting its first U.S. Open Championship at nearby Chambers Bay Golf Course.
“There is a real buzz in the Seattle area for golf, and our facility at Safeco Field should help grow the game,” Rogers said. “A study of the demographics of Mariners fans shows that 42 percent are golfers, so we know the people coming to watch baseball are also interested in golf.”
Rogers is one of the lead coaches at the Seattle Golf Channel Academy, the first network of its kind devoted to growing the business of golf instruction. With 58 charter locations already committed, Seattle Golf Channel Academy will be inviting additional coaches to become part of the network.
As the Founder/COO and Director of Instruction for the Gregg Rogers Golf Performance Centers, Rogers has developed a golf instruction and club fitting and repair business in Bellevue.
Rogers said the Seattle Golf Channel Academy facility at Safeco Field features a 20-foot-wide HD video screen called “The Curve,” set up so fans can enjoy an interactive playing experience using the latest equipment on famous courses from around the world.
“The ballpark is very interactive, so people are constantly moving around,” Rogers said, “and this gives them one more thing to do before games, during games, and after games. We are there to have fun, while we drive interest in golf.”
The Seattle Golf Channel Academy at Safeco Field will also be open before Seattle Seahawks football games, which are played a block away at CenturyLink Field.
Rogers is affiliated with the Seattle Golf Channel Academy at two other Seattle area locations in Bellevue and Redmond. The Bellevue Golf Channel Academy is on 130th Ave., east of I-405. The Redmond Golf Channel Academy is at Willows Run Golf Complex on Willows Road, also east of I-405.
“Each of those sites will be a high performance academy for junior golfers, as well as adult golfer looking to improve,” said Rogers, the 2008 Western Washington Chapter PGA of America Teacher of the Year.
Rogers’ main 7,000 square-foot indoor facility in Bellevue features seven practice and fitting bays, each equipped to use TrackMan launch monitors and JC Video.
Recognized by Golf Digest magazine as one of “America’s Best 100 Club Fitters” in 2011, 2013 and 2015, Rogers has more than 30 years of experience teaching golf and fitting equipment. During that period, he has given more than 50,000 lessons.
Rogers’ certifications include TrackMan University and Science and Motion (SAM) Putting and Balance Lab.
