The 11th annual Poker Slam, held at KORAL Bar & Kitchen, is an unforgettable evening for the experienced or novice poker player. The event benefits Inspire Youth Project, a Seattle non-profit that for 25 years has provided emotional support, stability, advocacy and AIDS education for children and teens affected by HIV/AIDS.
Hosted by Pictionary creator Rob Angel with Master of Ceremonies Bob Guiney of “The Bachelor”, this celebrity studded event will feature friendly yet competitive poker tournaments, live and silent auctions, raffles and door prizes, premium food and drinks, and attentive VIP hosts and hostesses. Men and women will play in separate tournaments, with a champion of each.
Poker Slam has raised more than $650,000 over the past 11 years. With the funds raised last year, Poker Slam provided: mentor support for 35 kids; sent 30 kids to summer camp; team building ropes course to 14 teens and six volunteers; training for over 40 new volunteers; and much more.
Inspire Youth Project (IYP), formerly Rise n’ Shine, provides emotional support, stability, advocacy, and AIDS education for children and teens affected by HIV/AIDS. IYP provides mentors, summer camps and ongoing support groups to children who have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS; are living with a parent or immediate family member affected by the disease; or have been infected themselves. Because IYP’s mentorship, counseling and advocacy programs are so strong, IYP has expanded their reach to also touch the children of Childhaven, a local non-profit that serves children between the ages of 1 month and 5 years who have been abused, neglected or are at risk.
