The Patriot Fund, the nation’s only mutual fund developed to ensure all investments are terror free, is celebrating its 2nd anniversary during March, 2014. Investment in the fund having grown 30+% in the past 12 months and has more than doubled its client base of advisors that are successfully utilizing the fund for their clients.
“Although the Patriot Fund has achieved a level of success and has been able to more than double its client base over the past year, it’s fair to admit that launching a terror-free mutual fund has not been an easy thing to do,” said Mark Langerman, Managing Director of the Patriot Fund. “Educating investors of a new concept like terror-free investing does take some time, but ultimately we believe that being the first mover in this category will play to The Patriot Fund’s advantage.”
Educating investors and advisors alike to the concept takes time. Most Americans have no idea their investments may be helping State Sponsors of Terrorism such as Iran Syria and North Korea. Yet according to a December 31, 2011 report by IW Financial, 10% of the S&P 500 ($1.4 trillion of the market capitalization) is considered to be terror-infected stocks. Eight out of the 10 sectors in the S&P 500 contain companies that operate in countries identified as State Sponsors of Terrorism.
The Patriot Fund screens the S&P 500 for companies operating in nations that sponsor terrorism and replaces them with companies who have decided not to operate in these rogue states. The concern is that technology and finance assistance help their economies and the products and services they sell may generate tax and other revenues in Iran, Syria and North Korea and that may in turn be used by these State Sponsors of Terrorism to target American military personnel or U.S. interests and brutally suppress its own people.
The Patriot Fund’s growth in the last year shows that the concept, is picking up momentum. In fact, the greatest acceptance of the terror-free concept is occurring at the State Government level where 38 of 50 states already have a terror-free mandate in their public pension investments.
As world news headlines of rogue states continue, including of Syria’s Civil War and Iran’s nuclear program, it is expected that awareness of The Patriot Fund will continue to grow as investors become more aware of this option to screen their investments.
