Think you know Western Washington? When was the last time you visited the Olympic National Park? Explored our wild western beaches? Or drove through a real logging town? There are some who believe the soul of our state can truly be found along Washington’s much-lesser traveled Highway 101.
Starting Monday, November 18th Evening Magazine reporter Saint Bryan and Photographer Mark Morache will reintroduce this historic stretch of roadway to the Pacific Northwest in a weeklong series called “Road Trip 101.” Covering the entire Washington stretch of US 101, we visit a Star Wars store in Aberdeen, check out Raymond, South Bend, Long Beach and Cape Disappointment- which is anything but disappointing!
Circling the Olympic Peninsula like a doughnut with an evergreen filling, 101 is the only way to reach cities like Shelton, Skokomish, Sequim, Joyce, Forks or even Humptulips, WA. Places as colorful as they sound.
“The best thing about shooting this series is that I got to spend a lot of time in some of Western Washington’s most beautiful places and I got to meet a lot of real characters along the way. There’s a reason people choose to vacation here. I hope “Road Trip 101″ will make more people act as tourists in their own state. I plan to re-do this road trip next year with my family.” – Saint Bryan, Evening Magazine
As Saint and Mark started their journey, they were bombarded with suggestions and feedback from the community.
“Thanks to the great responses we got on Facebook and Twitter, I got some great story ideas and I never had to guess where Mark (Morache) and I should stop to get lunch.”– Saint
Starting Monday, November 18, Evening Magazine will return the some of that enthusiasm for 101. With multiple stops along the way, this weeklong series represents the essence of Evening Magazine.
Evening Magazine airs Monday-Friday on KING 5 at 7:30 p.m.
