Local nonprofit, Imagine Housing’s Ellsworth House (Mercer Island) will be painted by volunteers as part of the Master Builders Care Foundation’s annual Painting a Better Tomorrow, Saturday November 2.

Ellsworth House is a diverse community for low-income seniors.  Located in downtown Mercer Island, there are 59 affordable apartments, a tranquil garden and frequent community activities.  The facility also includes a library, computer lab, exercise room, arts and crafts room and laundry facilities.

“Imagine Housing applauds Master Builders Care Foundation for its dedication to community service and support. We all play a vital role in making our community stronger. Vibrant partnerships like the one between Imagine Housing and Master Builders help ensure that the most vulnerable among us are cared for and treasured. On behalf of Imagine Housing and the seniors at Ellsworth House, thank you for choosing to partner with us to improve the quality and aesthetics of this important affordable community.”  -Ann Levine, Executive Director, Imagine Housing

Residents at Ellsworth House all are over age 62 and qualify for federal rental assistance under Section 8 of the Federal Housing Act of 1937.  Their income must be less than 50% of King County’s area’s median income, although most residents earn less than 30% of the area’s mean income.

Imagine Housing is the only Eastside-based nonprofit dedicated to developing affordable rental housing and providing supportive services for the very lowest income members of the community.  Their goal is to provide permanent housing, education, support and encouragement to individuals and families, including seniors.

The Master Builders Care Foundation anticipates more than 100 Painting a Better Tomorrow volunteers will gather for the 11th consecutive year of this event.  “Our goal is to repaint the lobby, community room, hallways and several specific rooms in a single day,” stated Painting a Better Tomorrow Chair, Art Castilleja.

Ellsworth House is located at 2720 76th Avenue SE, Mercer Island.
