Bellevue’s Cassidy McDermott, a senior at Interlake High School, has been named a 2013 Siemens Merit Scholarship winner. McDermott is one of 75 students in 21 states who won the scholarship, which provides each student with $4,000 for tuition over the course of their college years, given in installments of $1,000 per academic year.
The Siemens Merit Scholarship is an award given to children of Siemens U.S. employees. McDermott and the other recipients were chosen based on high scores on the PSAT as well as academic record, activities, contribution to the community, school recommendation and an essay about personal characteristics, plans and goals.
“Since 1999, the Siemens Foundation has administered the Siemens Merit Scholarship program on behalf of Siemens as an investment in education,” said Jeniffer Harper-Taylor, President of the Siemens Foundation, in an official release. “These scholarships recognize children of Siemens employees for their academic excellence and should be celebrated by their communities.”
This year the Siemens Foundation awarded $300,000 in scholarship funds on behalf of participating Siemens sectors. Congratulations to Cassidy and all the other recipients.
