BELLEVUE, Washington – LifeWire (formerly Eastside Domestic Violence Program) is
highlighting its work to end domestic violence as the premier domestic violence organization
in Washington State at the World of Hope Dinner & Auction on Saturday, May 18th. The
event features inspirational keynote speaker Maddy Brockert, a LifeWire teen volunteer and
highlights the nonprofit’s critical prevention efforts to change the attitudes, beliefs, values and
behaviors that perpetuate violence for future generations.
Maddy, a high school student, showed incredible strength as she helped to seek justice for
the man that murdered her mother Susan Brockert. He was sentenced to life+ 20 years without
an opportunity for parole. Maddy now courageously speaks with other students about domestic
violence and encourages them to leave abusive relationships.
“The support of those attending this event is truly an investment in the lives and health of
thousands of families that live and work in our community” said Barbara Langdon, LifeWire
Executive Director. “We look forward to this celebration every year and have seen it grow in
both numbers of guests and dollars raised to help families that are in desperate need. The
World of Hope Dinner & Auction will raise funds that provide life-saving services to
domestic violence victims in our community. For many, our services can mean the difference
between life and death.”
An impressive showing of support from local leaders in government, public office, business
and the community is expected as LifeWire raises awareness and funds for victims, children
and families. Honorary Chairs Barb and Jim Barnyak will present the Norm Maleng Award to
Jane Hague and Kathy Lambert to honor their exceptional leadership and tireless commitment
to ending domestic violence. Molly Shen of KOMO4 News will emcee and Jeff Schenfeld of
Stokes Auction Group will serve as auctioneer.
The Dinner and Auction will be held on Saturday, May 18th at the Meydenbauer Center,
11100 NE 6th St. in Bellevue starting with a 5:00 PM Complimentary Wine Reception/Silent
Auction and a 7:00 PM Dinner/Live Auction and entertainment and dancing until Midnight.
More than 500 guests are expected to attend and be inspired by LifeWire’s work to help those
experiencing domestic violence and preventing the cycle from continuing. Complimentary
