LifeWire (formerly Eastside Domestic Violence Program) was awarded $20,000 from The Wave Foundation to support its prevention and intervention program focused on children and teens that have experienced violence and abuse in their homes.

LifeWire’s Children’s and Teen Programs are critical to helping break the inter-generational cycle of violence that so many young men grow up experiencing.” Said Barbara Langdon, LifeWire’s Executive Director.  “We are seeing that if we provide support services and education at an early age then the opportunity exists to acquire new skills and develop a new model of what a healthy relationship is… ending what has been a learned behavior passed down for too many generations!  We are making such a difference to ending this now and community support like this grant helps us tremendously!”

The grant was made possible because of an annual all-women’s cycling event held every fall called Cycle the WAVE (Women Against Violence Everywhere).  The popular and unique cycling event has grown during the past five years from 233 riders to the 1,160 riders that participated last year.  Nearly $480,000 has been raised with the 2012 grants totaling $120,000 awarded to organizations providing domestic violence services in the Washington State counties of King, Snohomish, Pierce, Chelan and Douglas.

LifeWire (formerly Eastside Domestic Violence Program) is an innovator of highly successful programs, including the 24-Hour Help Line, shelters that provide safe housing, advocacy services, support groups for adults, children and teens, a Latina outreach program and counseling.  These programs are critical when you consider that last year LifeWire answered more than  10,700 help line calls and provided direct service to more than 5,100 local victims of domestic violence.  Since 1982, LifeWire has served more than 115,000 victims and their children, helping them escape from abusive homes and relationships.  LifeWire drives prevention through community-based initiatives to cause change in behaviors and attitudes about domestic violence.  Your support makes this work possible.
