Dozens of volunteers from all over Western Washington will be in Bothell Saturday to help with the latest disaster to hit Southeast Asia.
The Philippines is suffering one of the worst natural disasters to hit the country. Deadly floods have already claimed the lives of at least 100 people and have forced a million others to flee their homes. Forecasters say more rain is coming to the capital city of Manila where 60% is already submerged in waist-high waters.
In response to this latest disaster, Child United , a 501 (c) 3 organization, is gathering donations to help with relief aid to victims. The effort is being called Project UNITED.
WHAT:
For the past week, Child United’s small team of volunteers, in conjunction with PAYO (Pilipino American Youth Organization based in Tacoma) have collected bags of donations. An event is scheduled on August 18 where volunteers will pack, sort and organize relief donations. It’s expected many more will drop off donations during the event. The organization hopes to pack 200 boxes at the event.
