This week, 325 Symetra Financial employees will mobilize
across the Puget Sound region in support of local communities during the third-annual Symetra Week of Service. Employee volunteers will build homes, clear trails, tutor kids, paint, clean and organize on behalf of 14 nonprofit organizations.
The 2011 Symetra Week of Service nonprofit partners and activities include:
• American Red Cross Serving King & Kitsap Counties, Seattle, Wash. — Volunteers will assemble emergency preparedness kits.
• Atlantic Street Center, Seattle, Wash. — Volunteers will provide tutoring and classroom assistance for the Atlantic Street Center’s Summer Academy.
• Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation/Badges for Baseball, Bellevue, Edmonds and Seattle, Wash. —Volunteers will work with local Boys & Girls Clubs on the Badges for Baseball program.
• Cascade Land Conservancy, Sammamish, Wash. — Volunteers will help maintain trails at the Hazel Wolf Wetlands Preserve.
• City of Sammamish’s Evans Creek Preserve, Sammamish, Wash. — Volunteers will build and restore trails.
• Habitat for Humanity, Issaquah Highlands and Renton, Wash. — Volunteers will help build homes for two deserving families.
• Hopelink Food Bank, Bellevue, Wash. — Volunteers will sort donations at the Bellevue food bank.
• Humane Society for Seattle/King County, Bellevue, Wash. — Volunteers will spread bark and prune the dogs’ walking trails.
• Imagine Children’s Museum, Everett, Wash. — Volunteers will update the “Construction Zone” play area.
• Renton/Skyway Boys & Girls Club, Seattle, Wash. — Volunteers will help with yard work and small maintenance projects.
• Ronald McDonald House of Western Washington & Alaska, Seattle, Wash.— Volunteers will clean, organize and do yard work for families with children being treated at Seattle Children’s Hospital.
• Starlight Children’s Foundation Northwest, Redmond, Wash. — Volunteers will stuff gift bags for children at local hospitals.
• Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, Wash. — Volunteers will clean veterans headstones at the national military cemetery.
• YWCA East Cherry Branch, Seattle, Wash. — Volunteers will organize storage room and make new housing units move-in ready.
