After a successful run, at the conclusion of our current exhibition the still night air, by Mitzi Pederson, Open Satellite will be closing its doors. This was a difficult decision to make but the tough economic climate has made it a reality for us to cease operations.
Launched as a three-year demonstration project, Open Satellite has been fully funded by Su Development since its inception in 2007 — a one million dollar investment in the arts. Artists with limited exposure in the Northwest have come from across the country and around the world to live in an apartment in the 989elements Tower above the exhibition space. During the first half of the three-month residency, artists use the space as a studio in which they create an original, site-specific work that then goes on display to the public free of charge.
Witnessing the creativity of the artists and curators who have exhibited their work here while helping them to realize their ideas has been an enriching experience for all of us.
the still night air will be on view through this Saturday, March 19.
Sincerely,
Open Satellite Board of Directors and Staff
