KING FM is excited to announce the 2011 KING FM “Ten Grands” Young Artist Award Grand Prize-winner, Nathan Lee, a pianist from Sammamish, WA.
Nine-year old Nathan Lee has been playing piano for three short years; he is tremendously gifted. He is a third grader at Samantha Smith Elementary in Sammamish, WA. This prize honors Nathan with the opportunity to be featured at the April 1, 2011 Ten Grands concert at Benaroya Hall as well as a $1,000 scholarship from KING FM. Of the youth who submitted to the Young Artists Awards, Bryan Lowe, KING FM programming director commented, “The caliber of performances was truly incredible. As I listened I had to constantly remind myself that these performers were kids! It’s exciting to see so many inspired and talented young musicians. Nathan Lee, our Grand Prize-winner is a great example. His feet can barely reach the pedals on the piano, yet his playing was beautiful.”
In November 2010, KING FM began its second annual association with Ten Grands (tengrands.com)—an organization that brings a one-night-only concert to Seattle to raise funds for The Snowman Foundation (snowmanfoundation.org). By partnering with Ten Grands, KING FM created the Young Artist Awards to honor youth in the Pacific Northwest who have dedicated themselves to arts education. Non-professional young artists were encouraged to submit short video of them performing for consideration. Well over 100 youth submitted including singer/songwriters, violinists, pianists, composers and more. Yesterday, the Grand Prize-winner was officially selected.
