Between Halloween candy, Thanksgiving stuffing and Christmas cookies, your body will take a brutal calorie beating this holiday season. This is the perfect time to start or change that workout routine.
Your body has an amazing ability to adapt and for most people, working out consists of what I call a “zombie workout”, which involves going to the gym and doing the same exercises over and over. I see people actually yawning while working out. Your body can’t possibly be getting an effective workout while yawning!
The key to beating the holiday flab is to change up your routine and make fitness fun. Here are some cool fitness games and programs you can do just about anywhere and get a great calorie burning muscle building workout:
Quick Sweat Dice: Currently on Kickstarter, with Quick Sweat Dice you have access to 462 unique workout combinations. Simply roll the dice and compete with friends to be the first person to 100 reps. It’s easy, quick and completely portable.
20 Minute Body: Invented by Brett Hoebel (celebrity trainer from NBC’s The Biggest Loser’s Season 11), his 20 Minute Body routine is pretty intense but meant for all levels of fitness enthusiasts. You’ll definitely sweat through 20 minutes of capoeira-based bodyweight moves. Capoeira is a traditional Brazilian art form with fluid and controlled exercises.
BW44 Program: With Tee Majors BW44 (Bodyweight 44) Program, you’ll get 27 unique workouts in a digital manual, a clean eating nutritional manual, a dynamic warm up video, and more. What’s great about this program is it contains everything, from warming up to working out to eating. The heavier you are, the more difficult the program is. Every step of the way, from nutrition to working out, Tee clearly explains the process in a very easy to understand manner. Who knows, with a little work, maybe you’ll be as ripped as him someday.
Playout: An exercise card game similar to my Strength Stack 52 fitness cards. The game turns bodyweight exercise into a fun competition. Playout is a great way to break up a mundane routine because it makes fitness fun and gives a full body workout in 20 minutes or less.
The above games and programs will jolt anyone out of their zombie workout funk. Just remember, if an exercise routine isn’t fun, it’s doomed from the beginning. The same concept is true for dieting. If you starve yourself or eat only bland foods, you will not only quit the diet, your rebound will cause you to consume more calories than you would have without the diet. Making fitness fun is easy and now more than ever there are creative options for you to choose from. If you are new to working out, make a commitment to yourself to try one of the above programs for at least 4 weeks. I would be shocked if you don’t feel and look better after those 4 weeks.
If you make fitness fun, those Christmas cookies won’t know what hit them!
