Thousands visit downtown Bellevue for signature arts fair weekend July 29-31

BELLEVUE, Wash. – More than 120 jury-selected artists will showcase their original artwork, jewelry, home décor, paintings, woodworking and sculpture in an outdoor street fair setting at the 2011 6th Street Fair. The 6th Street Fair, produced by the Bellevue Downtown Association, has a 41-year tradition in downtown Bellevue. Over 300,000 fair-goers are expected to gather in the city’s urban center for one of the nation’s largest and most distinguished art fair weekends, including the Bellevue Arts Museum artsfair and the Bellevue Festival of the Arts.

New this year is an interactive large-scale colorful art installation, Experience Web: An Open Book. The project, supported by the 4Culture, the Bellevue Downtown Association, City of Bellevue Arts Program, Kemper Development Company and The Westin Bellevue, will span two city blocks in downtown Bellevue beginning at Bellevue Square and extending along the pedestrian corridor (NE 6th Street) to 108th Avenue NE. Through miles of brightly colored yarn wrapped, wound, and woven into webs around individual book shaped structures, artist Suzanne Tidwell will tell Bellevue’s arts fair weekend story, presenting a visual testament to the overlapping paths experienced by visitors.
